Expressing Feelings with Flowers

Of all the wonderful things in this world, flowers a the one thing that seem to be a part of just about every culture in the world. Some types of flowers, such as the lotus, have significance in religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. Other types of flowers are revered by many a poet and scholar. Indeed, everywhere you look there's a flower type that seems to be a reflection of a person or a group's goals and aspirations.

Flowers are lovely product of plants that serve an aesthetic as well as a practical purpose. Along with enhancing the attractiveness of a plant, flowers play an essential role in the plants ability to reproduce.

Each type of flower reproduces in a different way. Some come from bulbs while others grow from cuttings and still others from seeds. Some flowers are perennials which means they don't have to be replanted each year. There are also annual flowers, or those that bloom once every year and, did you realize there are even flowers that are edible -- yes, the variety is almost endless.

Giving flowers on special occasions from birthdays to weddings or even just on regualr days when you feel like giving something special to someone you care about, the flowers aren't just pretty things you can place throughout your home. They have special meaning, as well, with the meaning depending on the type of flower.

A flower has a corresponding language, whether you're trying to express romantic feelings, jealousy, gratitude, admiration, or celebration a momentous occasion.

Here's a short list of a few types of flowers and what they mean:

* Alstroemeria: friendship
* Amaryllis: splendid beauty
* Anemone: anticipation
* Anthurium: hospitality
* Aster: patience
* Birds of Paradise: joyfulness
* Bouvardia, Double: enthusiasm
* Blue Violet: faithfulness
* Carnation: pride and beauty
* Chrysanthemum: cheerfulness in old age; fidelity
* Delphinium: heavenly
* Freesia: innocence
* Forget-me-not
* Gladiolus: strength of character
* Great Yellow Daffodil: chivalry
* Heather: admiration
* Holly: Am I forgotten?
* Hyacinth: constancy
* Hydrangea: heartfelt
* Indian Jasmine: attachment
* Ivy: marriage
* Iris: I have a message for you; My compliments
* Larspur: levity
* Lilac: youthful innocence
* Lily: majesty
* Orchid: a belle
* Pansy: thoughts
* Peony: bashful
* Pink Carnation: woman's love
* Pink Rose: indecision
* Purple Lilac: first emotions of love
* Queen Anne's Lace: sanctuary
* Ranunculus: radiant
* Red Rose: love
* Red Tulip: declaration of love
* Snapdragon: desire
* Statice: remembrance
* Stock: lasting beauty
* Sunflower: pure thoughts
* Sweet Pea: delicate pleasure
* White Daisy: innocence
* White Rose: I am worthy of you
* Yellow Rose: Friendship
* Yellow Iris: passion
* Zinnia: thoughts of absent friends

This list, of course, is incomplete. Including every flower types from all over the world would be a list too long to fit on this page. In fact, some species of flowers have yet to bear a name. However, this list gives you a good idea which flowers to give in order to tell that special someone your true thoughts and feelings.
