There are other factors to consider when choosing among the many lawn grasses available in the market. Failing to appreciate these factors can potentially lead to some burdensome problems later on, which would be quite unfortunate, given the fact that sound pre-purchase analysis could have prevented them.
What are these factors? Let's take a look at them one by one.
* Your location. What are the prevailing weather conditions that your area experiences throughout the year? How about the climate? How high and how low can the temperature go? These are important in choosing lawn grasses that can survive your environment. Otherwise, you'll just end up with a lot of dead grass which you will have to replace every time the season changes.
* The allotted area. How big is the lawn you wish to populate with grasses? Some lawn grasses can grow very fast and spread at an uncontrollable rate. Some can grow at a more manageable pace and a more manageable length.
* Time you can invest in caring for your lawn. Lawn maintenance is never easy, especially when you have to deal with rapid-growing grass. If you can't spare at least 2 hours every weekend to mow your lawn, 20 minutes per day to clean and water the same, and another 2 hours every month to apply fertilizer on the soil, then you should seriously consider getting grass types that do not require such high demands. You may compromise a little luster, but at least you'd be guaranteed of healthy and relatively vibrant carpets of green all year long.
* Main purpose for the grass. Are you going to use them to complement the theme of your garden? Then you should choose a grass type that is not aggressively competitive, so that your centerpiece plants won't be deprived of the essential nutrients necessary for their survival.
Most people play it safe and decide to purchase well established all-around grass. But even these grass types have their pros and cons, a fact that would further necessitate a plan and careful study before deciding on what grass should grace your lawn.
