Should You Settle For Artificial Grass?

from: Lawn and Garden Magic

Any veteran gardener will tell you that a garden without grass is a garden without a soul. Grass definitely gives a garden the touch of green it needs. It's the color often expected from gardens, after all, and anything else would probably look drab and boring, no matter how innovative its purpose may be.

However, there are some problems with grass keeping that are too tedious to neglect.

* You have to make it a point to trim the grass area of your garden to prevent them from growing too tall and give your backyard the look of an abandoned lot.

* Grass, for it's beauty, is only limited to outdoor areas.

* Grass can, and will, compete for the essential nutrients of the soil and the water supply, with your centerpiece plants.

* Not all grasses are good for golf practice and, let's face it, aside from gardening, grass is enjoying a resurgence in popularity because of the growing number of golf enthusiasts.

For many people, artificial grass has become a great alternative to the real thing because artificial grass, well, it doesn't grow. It doesn't die either. In fact, it doesn't compete with other plants and it comes in a variety of designs perfect for any purpose -- including golf.

Artificial grass is also the only option when it comes to giving the interiors of your house a more organic look. Growing real grass indoors will create more problems. Real grass smells, and the laborious demands for its maintenance can prove to be too much for any homeowner.

However, there are some down sides to artificial grass. It's susceptible to some disadvantages for the gardening homeowner as well.

* First, it's expensive and so not everyone will be able to afford this alternative.

* Some fake grass looks very artificial, which will defeat the purpose of being a viable replacement for the real thing.

* Some fake grass types are made up of cheap materials that can be painful for the feet, and may even be dangerous for children.

With replacement grass, it's basically a hit or miss since they're not built alike. One brand is different from another, often, in all aspects of the product.

The surest way to come up with the most prudent decision?

Study your options -- and do your research well. Look at the strengths and weaknesses of every choice available. This is the only way you'll be able to find the right non-natural grass that fills your particular needs.
