Gardening Inside The Greenhouse
from: Lawn and Garden MagicMost homes have a front lawn or a backyard with trees and grass, however, anyone can easily make a few changes that will improve the look of their home and its surroundings. One excellent hobby that many people have taken up is gardening and greenhouse gardening.
If you're interested in getting started, the first thing that needs to be done is to survey the area where the greenhouse will be setup. If you don't have a lot of space to place a free standing version, then attaching the greenhouse to the home should be considered.
Start out by measuring the area. The greenhouse requires enough sunlight for the plants and shade when it gets too hot. Observe the conditions at different times of the day to determine the best spot.
Depending on your location, you home may be affected by a cold climate or heat during the summer. Preparations need to be done to install a heater and a ventilation system that will counter the threat of extreme weather conditions and facilitate the growth flowers and plants in the greenhouse.
Heaters for a greenhouse can be powered by electricity since the area isnt that big. Purchasing a heater that uses oil or gas may only be needed if the structure is expanded.
Either system will provide the gardener with sufficient oxygen and carbon dioxide that is needed for the plants to grow.
Another consideration for giving plants enough space to grow is the type of panels used for the greenhouse. Plants need sunlight to grow and so the type of material used for the windows and ceiling is important.
Glass is traditionally used to do the job, but some studies have shown that too much sunlight passes through glass and this can kill the plants. To prevent this from happening, panels made of film, plastic or Plexiglas are much better.
Your greenhouse should grow the ideal kinds of flowers that will survive the climate conditions in your area. Ask the sales representative at your local gardening store or look at the label posted on each plant before making your purchase.
When you're ready to go, you have two options. First is to draw the design, and then go to a supplier who can put it together or go directly to a contractor to make a drawing from which you will have your greenhouse designed and made.
If you dont have an idea where to start, you can look at how other people doing this as a hobby in the neighborhood have setup. You can also visit the arboretum or look at gardening magazines to get an idea what kind of greenhouse is best for your home.
The soil in that part of the house should be prepared before construction is under way. Basically, this is just to enclose the area so it is alright if there are plants on the site already.
The greenhouse can always be improved later to not only have soil, but water at all times that will enhance the plants growth. This technique, called hydroponic farming, is done by farmers to increase crop production.
When you have enough money, soil can be changed to water channels that release water mixed with nutrients to the plants. There are several ways to accomplish this, so do some research on the way this can be implanted to get yourself moving on the right track.
To properly work in the greenhouse you will need the right equipment, most of which can.be purchased at your local gardening store. Make sure you store your equipment properly when not in use.
It's also a good idea to have your equipment locked up to prevent children from playing with it and preventing accidents from happening.
Gardening is not just the realm of a professional. Anyone can do things in a creative way to make their house stand out. By first doing some research before having your greenhouse installed, your home will look really great when construction is completed.
Learn the proper techniques in maintaining your greenhouse and which flowers to plant, and you will be proud to show off your new garden to family, friends and neighbors.
