from: Lawn and Garden Magic

Having a your own greenhouse brings many benefits to a gardener, whether you're a mere hobbyist or an expert plant cultivator. However, there are several things you must consider if you've decided to setup a greenhouse, as well as the expenses that come with building greenhouses.

One good alternative is to purchase a hoop house type of greenhouse. These are very simple greenhouses that are easily assembled. There are many advantages in having a hoop house greenhouse, here are just a few of them:

* Availability of more growing time
A hoop house greenhouse provides a gardener more time to cultivate his favorite plants. The growing season can be extended by an extra 3 to 4 months in the greenhouse.

* Inexpensive way to cultivate
Hoop house greenhouses provide an inexpensive and convenient way for greenhouse enthusiasts to get started cultivating crops.

* Crop protection from predators & extreme weather conditions

Hoop house greenhouses are built to protect plants from any type of adverse condition brought about by weather conditions and crop predators. They provide a sturdy and effective covering for the plants against these factors.

* More varieties of plants can be grown

Since hoop houses provide a longer growing season, more varieties of plants can be grown.

* Increased income and savings

You can cultivate different crops which can be turned into extra income or savings. You can actually sell fruits and vegetables grown in the hoop houses or you can plant crops which can be consumed by your family and thus avoid the need to purchase these from the supermarket.

There are many reasons why gardeners have setup hoop houses in their gardens. Here are some facts about hoop houses for enthusiasts:

* Most growers recover the cost of building their hoop houses in a single season of planting.

* There are no permits required when building hoop houses because they're not considered permanent structures.

* The growing seasons can be extended by using hoop houses and other equipment. Hoop houses can extend your growing seasons by as much as 4 months. However, if you add layers of insulating film and an inflation blower, you can extend the growing season even longer.

* Hoop houses are usually made from galvanized steel. The galvanized hoops serve as the framework for the greenhouse. The material is low maintenance, very sturdy and very economical.

* Hoop houses provide natural regulation of its temperature. There's no need for extra costly equipment. Hoop houses are warmed by the natural sun and are cooled by the wind. You can roll the sides up and open the hoop house doors to provide ventilation for the plants inside. This is a very cost effective way of cultivating plants in a greenhouse.

* Hoop houses can be built in places where the winds are prevalent and where snow can be a problem. Hoop houses are built from sturdy frames that are designed to handle heavy winds and can withstand the harsh effects of snow. You can position the hoop house perpendicular to the winds to maximize ventilation for the plants. Also, remember that some maintaining needs to be done when the snow comes. Brushing away the snow from time to time will be very beneficial for the hoop house.

* Hoop houses are tall structures and so gardeners can use the vertical space to plant more crops. Adding purlins will allow you to hang baskets, tie up tomatoes as well as other plants. Baskets can then be used to plant ornamental crops and other types of plants.

* One can customize the creation of doors and windows of your hoop house. The traditional hoop houses have a built-in door and a couple of windows for ventilation.

* There are other functions hoop houses can also perform when planting season is over. They can serve as a chicken coop if you install poultry netting and they can also be used to grow orchids or other ornamental plants.

* Hoop houses are easily relocated and this can be accomplished without disassembling the structure.

There are lots of reasons why people use hoop houses when they want to have a greenhouse. Aside from the multiple benefits that plants get from being sheltered, hoop houses are very economical and won’t be a major burden on a gardeners’ pocket book.
