1. One thing you'll discover quick enouth is that the cuttings from the previous year are the best types to use when you want to plant a new Cypress bonsai. Once you've cleaned the edge with a razor-sharp knife, insert the cutting in sand (clean and always moist). As with any nursery stocks, you should allow the cuttings to grow for the next 2 years.
2. During the third year, you can beging training using copper wire to train the trunk and branches. Cut off the branches that have grown before beginning to train. Your ultimate goal is to gorw a low bonsai with short branches.
3. Autumn is the best time to shorten and trim the branches to ensure the growth has already hardened. Springtime trimming causes the sap to flow out and which may cause the branch to wither and the tree to die.
4. When watering a Cypress Bonsai, you should put them in a basin full of water, especially during the spring and summer seasons. The advantage heres is that you won't have to worry about watering your trees on a daily basis.
5. You should repot your Cypress Bonsai every 2 - 3 years to ensure the health of its roots and the overall health of the plant.
6. For the most aggressive Cypress enthusiast, it's possible to turn your garden into a small forest with cypresses everywhere. This techniques requires the use of seeds and raising seedlings from them. For Cypresses, many people say it's better to raise them from seedlings rather than purchasing them already potted.
