A rain forest is a tropical temperature, however, countries such as Australia, the Mediterranean and southern United States can also be considered tropical areas.
Tropical bonsai can grow in any condition regardless of where you live. What is required is the plant needs to be able produce a stem and be pruned regularly.
Here are some tropical bonsais you might be interested in adding to your garden, especially if you live in an area with a tropical climate:
1. Azalea
Azalea are easy to prune and only require bright and filtered sunlight set in damp moisture. For anyone just starting out growing bonsai, this is the perfect plant to get your garden started.
2. Bougainvillea
Bougainviliea is a flowering vine with thorns that are quite easy to prune. What you do need is to make sure you provide the correct amount of sunlight. A good design for the bougainvillea is a cascade style bonsai.
3. Black Olive
Black Olive have dark small green leaves with both stems leaves containing thorns. They're quite easy to prune as well and similar to the azalea, they need bright filtered light and the proper abount of moisture.
4. Boxwood
Boxwood have small waxy and oval-shaped green leaves that are easy to prune. You should always make sure the roots are cut regularly and that they have enough bright light.
5. China Doll
China Doll have fragile and delicate leaves and need to be grown in a moisture soil where ther is an abundance of bright light but no sun.
6. Fuschia
Since the Fuschia is a trailing plant and is usually grown outdoors, it's important to prune in a cascade bonsai style. It required cool temperature as well as indoor light that is bright.
7. Hibiscus
Hibiscus is a wood shrub with tubular flowers and must be grown in damp moisture.
8. Oleander
Oleander is also a flowering shrub, but you must be very careful when handling the plant because its leaves are poisonous, and certainly never eat it!
9. Poinsettia
Poinsettia is usually associated with Christmas.It has has colorful bracts that are easy to prune and just needs damp moisture and bright light.
10. Pomegrenate
Pomegrenate is a shrub with pointed oval leaves and red flowers, and it produces fruit.
11. Sageretia
Sageretia is a plant with oval leaves and white flowers that requires indirect sunlight and during the the winter they require damp moisture. You'll find their blue berries are quite attractive.
12. Tree of a Thousand Stars
This bonsai has tiny leaves and white flowers that come in singles or doubles. Tree of a Thousand Stars needs damp moisture, high humidity and direct light.
