A Few Bonsai Techniques
from: Lawn and Garden Magic
If you've decided to get into Bonsai you will leanr that it's an art for that takes some time to learn and master. Anyone who has no experience with Bonsai is advised to tak a few classes and read study some books because one mistake can damage the tree.
Here are some of the techniques used when growing the tree.
Have you ever noticed how awful you look when your hair is too long? Something similar occurs when dealing with Bonsai trees, which is why hobbyists should trim their tree regularly so it maintains the desired look.
But understand that a pair of scissors isn't going to get the job done when branches are the problem. What is required is using a technique called pruning. You should use a cutter to do this work and once completed, use a sealant to help the Bonsai tree heal.
In order for new branches to grow on the tree, use the technique known as pinching. Yes, what you actually do is literally pinch certain parts using your finger and thumb to feel the tree.
As your Bonsai tree grows, you'll need to transfer it from one pot to a larger container. During this process you'll also do what is called root pruning, a similar technique pruning the branches. Make sure you get the pot and new soil ready ahead of time so the they're not exposed to the elements for a long time, a bad idea that could kill the plant.
Use a bending jack or wires to help get the desired shape for your Bonsai tree.
An important technique to help make your Bonsai tree look new again is defoliation, which simply means removing all the leaves so they'll grow all over again. You'll soon see smaller leaves that didn't exist before start to appear on the branches.
Finally, you'll use a technique that's very easy to learn, which is feeding. Everyone knows water can give the tree its nutrients, but similar to flowers and vegetables, the use of fertilizers can help with its growth. There's the liquid type, but some hobbyists may prefer the pellet version.
Bonsai trees can last for many years if cared for properly. There really is no right or wrong way to create a certain image. The best thing to do is learn every technique from someone knowledgeable about growing Bonsai and then see what happens.
