Bonsai Supplies for the Hobbyist
from: Lawn and Garden Magic
Gardening is a hobby anyone with a front lawn or backyard can get into. However, some people have a difficult time taking care of a large area, and so the next best approach that won't take up a lot of time is growing and maintaining Bonsai plants and trees.
For this to work, however, a hobbyist needs a tree plus all the essential supplies for growing. Your search for supplies can start at your local gardening store and can extend to finding products online as well, since there are many excellent websites that supply information and products on the Internet.
Bonsai trees usually come in pots, but in order to maintain it's growth, the Bonsai gardener will need to repot to bigger ones from time to time as the tree grows. You'll also need to have an ongoing supply of soil, which isn't expensive and will ensure your Bonsai continues to thrive.
Some good scissors are a necessary supply to make pruning your Bonsai trees easy. These can be purchased separately or in sets and will be used for cutting off leaves and twigs that could damage the look and shape of your Bonsai tree.
Bonsai trees need water and sunlight to grow, plus fertilizer. You'll find that gardening stores have this avaiable in either pellet or liquid form. To save time running back and forth from the store, consider getting fertilizer in large packs to reduce how often you need to shop in order to replenish your stock.
A Bonsai tree doesn't automatically grow in the shape you desire but requires a some help using wires which you can also purchase at a garden store. Wires used for Bonsai growing are either made of copper or aluminum and are available in different diameters so it's a good idea to measure your Bonsai tree first.
If you have a problem using wires, a bending jack can be used. The Bonsai hobbyist needs to apply a bit of pressure eachy time so you don't break the tree's trunk.
Bonsai growing is a slow process and it some time to see your tree grow into a work of art. Beginners should consider taking some classes and reading magazines to help them understand the process fo proper Bonsai growing. What is nice is that there is no right or wrong way to shape your Bonsai tree or plant.
