For most people, the idea of using plastic as mulch is preposterous. Mulch is supposed to help the soil retain water and other essential nutrients, yes, but plastic isn't exactly the malleable substance synonymous with the usual materials used as mulches... materials like leaves, manure, and other organic elements. Plastic is hard. Plastic is non-permeable. Plastic is known as an environmental hazard since it's non-biodegradable. How can it be used as mulch?

Yet, it still doesn't answer the question why... why is plastic mulch beneficial for the garden?

Currently, gardeners are studying the effects of different colors of mulches for their gardens, synchronizing the same with the needs of particular plants as well as the qualities of a particular soil type.
Mulches made of plastic may encounter a lot of hesitance from many gardeners all over the world, but its benefits cannot be ignored.
