The Power To Control Weeds

from: Lawn and Garden Magic

Yes, it's frustrating, but you have power over them. Those pesky weeds infiltrating your garden are certainly relentless, but you must never give up since the fate of your garden depends on your continued support. If you allow weeds to grow by not taking inaction, you might as well not waste your time trying to grow a garden of any kind.

Weeds must be controlled because they're the enemy of your garden which makes them your enemy as well! If you neglect the growth of weeds, you risk losing months or years invested in establishing and beautifying your garden.

So, what's the answer for keeping weeds under control?

Prevention is the Key

That's right, your can suppress the growth of weeds by preventing their growth in the first place. How? You mujst acquaint yourself with the reasons weeds grow. These are:

* poor watering;
* poor fertilization; and
* poor oxidation methods

Weeds thrive in gardens left with moisture for many days. Also if you apply too much fertilizer (more than recommended) you may be promoting the growth of weeds as well. Too much oxygen is likely going to help boost the already rapid growth of weeds in your garden.

Now that you know the causes, you should avoid them.

Cycling

Regardless of what you do, however, there are weed varieties, that will inevitably grow. If you follow previous steps, you'll be able to limit weed growth, involving only those weed types that are inescapable.

Controling weeds of this nature will require cycling as the primary option. This involves mowing down the top portions of the weed sprouts and then cultivating the land to at least 6 inches deep. The soil should be turned from the bottom to the surface to expose the weed seeds and seedlings. After about a week, the process should be repeated continued until the weed infestation is completely eliminated.

Mulching

Mulching is another tactic that will control weeds. This requires the placement of leaves and other organic materials on the ground to keep the right level of moisture in the soil, which in turn promotes a healthier environment for your plants. Mulching immediately kills existing weeds, and also prevents the growth of new ones.
